What is a Rudraksha?
Rudraksha is the dried seed of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree, which grows in the Himalayan foothills, Nepal and Indonesia. Its fruit ripens a deep blue; inside is the bead. The name joins Rudra, a name of Shiva, and aksha, eye: tradition holds that the first beads grew from Shiva's tears.
Every bead carries natural lines running from top to bottom. Each segment between two lines is a mukhi, or face, and the number of mukhis decides the deity and graha a bead is associated with. Beads are worn singly on a thread, in a bracelet, or as a mala for japa.
How the calculator chooses
- Main bead: the bead of the graha that rules your Lagna (ascendant), calculated with the Lahiri ayanamsa.
- Supporting beads: the beads of the lords of your 5th and 9th houses, and of your birth nakshatra.
- No birth time: your Moon sign takes the Lagna's place. If the Moon changed sign that day, you see the bead for each side of the change.
- By purpose: the bead traditionally worn for what you seek, with no birth details needed.

Frequently asked questions
How does the Rudraksha calculator work?
With your birth details, the calculator works out your Lagna (ascendant), Moon sign and nakshatra from sidereal planetary positions using the Lahiri ayanamsa. Your main Rudraksha is the bead of your Lagna lord. Supporting beads come from the lords of your 5th and 9th houses and of your birth nakshatra. If you choose a purpose instead, it suggests the bead traditionally worn for that purpose.
What if I don't know my birth time?
Choose "I don't know my birth time". Without a time your Lagna cannot be calculated, so the reading uses your Moon sign instead. If the Moon changed sign on your birth day, the result shows which bead applies if you were born before the change and which applies after it, alongside 5 Mukhi, which suits everyone.
Which Rudraksha can everyone wear?
5 Mukhi Rudraksha, associated with Kalagni Rudra and Guru (Jupiter), is traditionally considered safe and beneficial for everyone. It is the most widely worn bead for health, calm and meditation.
Can I wear more than one Rudraksha?
Yes. Many people wear their main bead together with their supporting beads. Beads worn for the same graha, such as 1 Mukhi and 12 Mukhi for Surya, are equivalents, so you only need one of them.
Why does the calculator ask for my mobile number?
