This Krishna–Sudama Sushobhan Thali depicts the reunion between Krishna and his childhood friend Sudama. The Śrīmad Bhāgavatam describes Sudama as Krishna’s old friend from the time they studied together under their spiritual teacher, Sāndīpani Muni. Years later, Sudama, living in poverty, travelled to Dwaraka to meet Krishna. When Krishna saw Sudama approaching, he rose to welcome him, embraced him with affection, seated him with honour, and personally washed his feet, worshipping him with sandalwood, incense and lamps. The artwork captures this moment of Krishna washing Sudama’s feet, expressing affection and respect beyond wealth, status or circumstance. It reflects a bond of friendship marked by honour, care and lasting affection.
